The favella tour I just did with Be a Local was a really special, eye-opening experience for me. I was a bit hestitant about taking a tour with such sensitive social dynamics, but our guide was a respectful and knowledgable one. This was one of the most tought provoking parts of my 12 days in Brazil. Really recommended for anyone who wants to understand Brazilian society, not just relax on the beach.

If your are thinking to try the Favela Party, GO!!!!! We sent an email the day of the party and Mario called at 10pm to make sure we still wanted to go. Within 20 minutes we were picked up by Marcos and he showed us a great time. He even got me a of a drink (Xiboquinha Philadelphia) wile we waited for the buses. I have re-named it “Christmas”. All of the tour guides really friendly and fun. Dancing, fireworks and drunk tourists to laugh at, I had the time of my life!!!

They even took care of the incapacited people during the event and helped then back to their hostel/ Hotels. We wanted to get the t-shirts and would you believe that they brought then to then hotel? I have never been so impressed with a tour company in any country that ive visited.

Be a Local Tour group exceeds the standarts of any company worldwide.

Do not hesitate to do the city tour if you get the chance, definitely the best way to see the city. Our guide Marcio was amazing, he told us interesting facts along the way, re-routed us to walk through a brilliant local market rather than get caught in traffic in the minibus, and moved heaven and hell to make sure we got to see sunset from Sugar Loaf mountain when it looked like we were running late. Well worth the money, I’d recommend this tour to anyone.

Favela da Rocinha: Traveller Reviews

The Be a Local Tours take you to one of the top 5 things to do in Rio. you will take a ride up by van and then will walk all the way down through the small streets. Much better then stay inside a van and see the favela like a zoo. I recommend.
